About Grow Room Heating
Grow Tent Heaters and Grow Room Heating
Temperature is one of the most critical environmental factors in your grow room. Too cold and plant growth slows to a crawl, nutrient uptake drops and you risk root problems. During lights-off in winter, even a well-insulated tent can drop well below the 18°C minimum most plants need. A dedicated grow tent heater is the simplest solution. At Black Country Systems we stock a range of grow room heaters suitable for everything from a compact 60x60 tent to a large dedicated grow room.

Types of Grow Room Heater
Tube heaters are the most economical option for maintaining a minimum temperature. They work like a radiator rather than a fan heater, radiating gentle, even warmth without creating hot spots. Running from as little as 60W, they're ideal for preventing temperature dips during lights-off periods in small to medium tents. Look for splash-resistant models and pair with a thermostat for automatic control.
Fan heaters heat spaces quickly and are more powerful than tube heaters, making them ideal for larger grow rooms or situations where you need to bring temperatures up quickly. Many have built-in thermostats. Choose a model designed for horticultural use, as standard domestic fan heaters aren't always safe in humid environments.
Flat panel radiant heaters are an excellent space-saving option. They can be suspended or wall-mounted, distribute heat evenly across a large area, and are particularly effective in LED grow rooms where the lights themselves don't generate much ambient heat.
What Temperature Should My Grow Room Be?
Most plants prefer 24 to 28°C during the lights-on period and around 18 to 20°C during lights-off. The key is consistency, as large temperature swings between day and night stress plants and slow growth. A grow tent heater with an inbuilt thermostat (or paired with a separate thermostat controller) will maintain stable conditions automatically.
LED Growers: You Likely Need a Heater
If you've switched from HPS to LED lighting, great choice for efficiency. But be aware that LED lights produce far less radiated heat than HPS, so your grow room will run cooler. Many LED growers find they need supplementary grow room heating even in the warmer months. A tube heater or flat panel heater is usually all you need.
