About Pots & Saucers
The right pot makes a huge difference to how well your plants grow. Root health is everything in indoor growing, and a pot that's the right size, made from the right materials and correctly matched to your growing medium will keep roots healthy, prevent overwatering and make feeding far more consistent. At Black Country Systems, we stock a full range of hydroponic pots and saucers, including standard plastic pots, fabric (air) pots, square pots and matching saucers, for soil, coco and hydroponic systems.

Plastic Pots vs Fabric Pots: Which Is Right for You?
Standard plastic pots are the workhorse of indoor growing. Affordable, durable and available in every size from 1L propagation pots right up to 30L+ for big plants. Ideal for soil and coco grows, and easy to clean between cycles.
Fabric pots (also called air pots or smart pots) are increasingly popular because they air-prune roots naturally. When a root reaches the fabric wall, it stops growing rather than circling, encouraging a much denser, more fibrous root structure. Better roots mean better nutrient uptake and, ultimately, bigger yields. Fabric pots also prevent overwatering by allowing excess moisture to evaporate through the sides.
Choosing the Right Pot Size
Pot size has a direct impact on how often you water and how large your plants grow. Too small and roots become bound, restricting growth. Too large and the growing medium stays wet for too long, increasing the risk of root rot.
A general guide for soil/coco grows: propagation up to 1 to 2L, small plants 3 to 5L, medium plants 8 to 11L, large plants 15 to 25L. For hydroponic systems (DWC, flood & drain, NFT), pot sizing varies, so ask us if you need guidance.
Hydroponic Saucers
Saucers are essential for keeping any runoff contained and your growing space clean. A saucer slightly larger than the base of your pot works well, however it's important not to let plants sit in pooled water for extended periods, as this encourages root disease.
