Using coco coir
Most of our coco comes pre-hydrated and ready to pot straight from the bag. Check the individual product listing, as a small number of compressed blocks need soaking and breaking up first. Coco coir sits slightly acidic, typically pH 5.5-6.8, which suits most houseplants, vegetables and herbs. For the best drainage, pot into a fabric or air-pot style container (see our pots & saucers) rather than a solid-sided pot, and pair with a coco-calibrated nutrient line, since coco coir itself holds very little usable nutrient. What is coco coir?

Is coco coir the same as coco soil?
Yes. "Coco soil" is the common name for prepared, hydrated coco coir. Both terms describe the same material.
Do I need to add nutrients with coco coir?
Yes. Coco coir holds very little nutrient on its own, so growers normally feed with a dedicated coco A&B nutrient line from the first watering onward.
Can I mix coco coir with other media?
Yes. Many growers blend coco with perlite (like our Gold Label 60/40) to improve drainage further, or use it straight from the bag on its own.
Is coco coir suitable for all plants?
It suits most plants, including houseplants, vegetables, herbs and hydroponic crops, provided you're feeding nutrients alongside it.
