About Extractor Fans for Grow Tents & Grow Rooms
An extractor fan is the engine of your grow room. It pulls out hot, humid air, draws fresh air in and, paired with a carbon filter, keeps odours inside the tent. We stock inline extractor fans from 4" to 12", from budget-friendly RVK models to silenced EC fans for setups where noise matters.
How to choose an extractor fan
Match the fan to the space. As a general rule of thumb, growers aim to swap the air in a tent roughly once every one to three minutes. Work out your tent volume (length x width x height) and multiply by 20 to 60 to get the airflow you need in m³ per hour, then add some headroom because a carbon filter and ducting both reduce real-world airflow. A 1.2 x 1.2 x 2m tent is about 2.9m³.
Match the diameter. Fan, filter and ducting should be the same size, or joined with a reducer. The RVK inline extraction fan comes in 100, 125, 150, 200, 250 and 315mm (4" to 12"), from £70.
Decide how quiet it needs to be. Standard AC inline fans like the RVK are dependable and cheap to run. EC fans such as the K-Line Silent EC Fan (10" rated at 2,300m³/h, 12" at 3,200m³/h) give smooth speed control and use less power. If noise is the main concern, the Rhino Ultra Silenced EC Fan has a foam-lined acoustic casing, and the Isomax has a silencer built in, so you do not need a separate one.
Bigger rooms. The Tornado Box Fan is an acoustic box unit rated from 1,500 to 4,250m³/h with 10" or 12" spigots, including twin-inlet versions for extracting from two spaces.

Extractor fan FAQs
Do I need a carbon filter with my extractor fan?
If odour matters, yes. Fit the carbon filter inside the tent on the intake side of the fan and choose a filter rated for at least the same airflow as the fan.
What is the difference between an AC and an EC fan?
EC (electronically commutated) motors offer finer speed control, run quieter at low speeds and use less electricity. AC fans cost less to buy.
Should the fan be inside or outside the tent?
Either works. Mounting it inside, hung from the frame, keeps the setup tidy and means the fan pulls air through the filter.
